    Sacrifice - Elton John

    Çok seviyorum bu parçayı...
    Hayatımda da büyük yeri var.
    Sizlerle paylaşmak istedim...
    Umarım beğenirsiniz

    Its a human sign
    When things go wrong
When the scent of her lingers
    And temptations strong

    Into the boundary
    Of each married man
    Sweet deceit comes calling
    And negativity lands

    Cold cold heart
    Hard done by you
    Some things look better baby
    Just passing through

    And its no sacrifice
    Just a simple word
    Its two hearts living
    In two separate worlds
    But its no sacrifice
    No sacrifice
    Its no sacrifice at all

    Mutual misunderstanding
    After the fact
    Sensitivity builds a prison
    In the final act

    We lose direction
    No stone unturned
    No tears to damn you
    When jealousy burns

Mehmet Okur Named To 2007 NBA All-Star Team

Utah Jazz F/C Mehmet Okur was named to the Western Conference All-Star team, the NBA announced today. Okur becomes the second Jazzman selected to this year’s All-Star Game, joining teammate Carlos Boozer. Okur was tabbed by NBA Commissioner David Stern as an injury replacement for the 2007 NBA All-Star Game which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
This is the first All-Star berth for the 6-11, 263-pound native of Turkey, who is in his fifth NBA season and third with the Jazz. Okur has started all 51 Jazz games and is averaging a career-high 18.2 points, along with 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Okur ranks second on the Jazz in both scoring and rebounding and has posted 15 double-doubles on the season. He also leads the team in three-point shooting, hitting 92-of-238 attempts (.387), the most in the NBA for a player 6-11 or taller.
Okur has been one of the most clutch players in the NBA this season, hitting 28 game-tying or leading field goals in the fourth quarter or overtime, including four-game winning shots in the final 40 seconds of games. He has also proven durable, having appeared in 231 straight games (all 213 since joining the Jazz), the fifth-longest active streak in the NBA.
Okur is the tenth player in Jazz franchise history to make the All-Star Game, and joins Boozer as the first Jazz representatives since Andrei Kirilenko in 2004. The other Jazz All-Stars are Boozer, Adrian Dantley (1980-82, ‘84-86), Mark Eaton (1989), Rickey Green (1984), Andrei Kirilenko (2004), Karl Malone (1988-02), Pete Maravich (1977-79), Len “Truck” Robinson (1978) and John Stockton (1989-97, ‘00). This is the first time the Jazz have had multiple players selected to the NBA All-Star game since 2000 with Malone and Stockton.
The 56th NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 18, will air live on TNT and ESPN Radio beginning at 6 p.m. MT. The game will also be telecast in over 200 countries and broadcast on NBA.com.www.nba.com

ROME - They died young and, by the looks of it, in love. Two 5,000-year-old skeletons found locked in an embrace near the city where Shakespeare set the star-crossed tale "Romeo and Juliet" have sparked theories the remains of a far more ancient love story have been found. Archaeologists unearthed the skeletons dating back to the late Neolithic period outside Mantua, 25 miles south of Verona, the city of Shakespeare's story of doomed love. Buried between 5,000 and 6,000 years ago, the prehistoric pair are believed to have been a man and a woman and are thought to have died young, because their teeth were found intact, said Elena Menotti, the archaeologist who led the dig.
"As far as we know, it's unique," Menotti told The Associated Press by telephone from Milan. "Double burials from the Neolithic are unheard of, and these are even hugging." Archaeologists digging in the region have found some 30 burial sites, all single, as well as the remains of prosperous villages filled with artifacts made of flint, pottery and animal horns. Although the Mantua pair strike an unusual and touching pose, archaeologists have found other prehistoric burials in which the dead hold hands or have other contact, said Luca Bondioli, an anthropologist at Rome's National Prehistoric and Ethnographic Museum. Bondioli, who was not involved in the Mantua dig, said the find has "more of an emotional than a scientific value." But it does highlight how the relationship people have with each other and with death has not changed much from the period in which humanity first settled in villages, learning to farm the land and tame animals, he said. "The Neolithic is a very formative period for our society," he said. "It was when the roots of our religious sentiment were formed." Menotti said the burial was "a ritual, but we have to find out what it means." Experts might never determine the exact nature of the pair's relationship, but Menotti said she had little doubt it was born of a deep sentiment. "It was a very emotional discovery," she said. "From thousands of years ago we feel the strength of this love. Yes, we must call it love." The couple's burial site was located Monday during construction work for a factory in the outskirts of Mantua. Alongside the couple, archaeologists found flint tools, including arrowheads and a knife, Menotti said. Experts will now study the artifacts and the skeletons to determine the burial site's age and how old the two were when they died, she said. The finds will then go on display at Mantua's Archaeological Museum. Establishing the cause of death could prove almost impossible, unless they were killed by a debilitating disease, a knife or something else that might have left marks on the bones, Menotti said. www.msnbc.msn.com

    VALENTINE'S DAY

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.
Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.
While some believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial -- which probably occurred around 270 A.D -- others claim that the Christian church may have decided to celebrate Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to 'christianize' celebrations of the pagan Lupercalia festival. In ancient Rome, February was the official beginning of spring and was considered a time for purification. Houses were ritually cleansed by sweeping them out and then sprinkling salt and a type of wheat called spelt throughout their interiors. Lupercalia, which began at the ides of February, February 15, was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.
To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman priests, would gather at the sacred cave where the infants Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were believed to have been cared for by a she-wolf or lupa. The priests would then sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification.
The boys then sliced the goat's hide into strips, dipped them in the sacrificial blood and took to the streets, gently slapping both women and fields of crops with the goathide strips. Far from being fearful, Roman women welcomed being touched with the hides because it was believed the strips would make them more fertile in the coming year. Later in the day, according to legend, all the young women in the city would place their names in a big urn. The city's bachelors would then each choose a name out of the urn and become paired for the year with his chosen woman. These matches often ended in marriage. Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine's Day around 498 A.D. The Roman 'lottery' system for romantic pairing was deemed un-Christian and outlawed. Later, during the Middle Ages, it was commonly believed in France and England that February 14 was the beginning of birds' mating season, which added to the idea that the middle of February -- Valentine's Day -- should be a day for romance. The oldest known valentine still in existence today was a poem written by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt. The greeting, which was written in 1415, is part of the manuscript collection of the British Library in London, England. Several years later, it is believed that King Henry V hired a writer named John Lydgate to compose a valentine note to Catherine of Valois.
